The chromium content of 400 series stainless steel is generally 12%-30%, usually does not contain nickel, sometimes contains a small amount of Mo, Ti, Nb and other elements, and the matrix structure is ferritic in the use state. Common models are 430, 409L and so on. The chromium content is not less than 12% (generally 12%-18%), the carbon content is high, the use of state structure is martensite, and its mechanical properties can be adjusted by heat treatment. The common models are 410, 420, 440, 436L, etc.


Corrosion resistance

In the case of the same amount of chromium, in the atmosphere, fresh water and nitric acid and other oxidizing media, its corrosion resistance is equivalent to 300 series stainless steel, and better than 200 series stainless steel. Some ferritic stainless steels have better stress corrosion resistance than 300 series stainless steels in some specific environments, such as media containing chloride


High temperature oxidation resistance
